Behind the Brain

Something about movies

You can't judge the quality of a movie by the number of prices it has won. PERIOD. Although there are people who see this different it is just a fact.

Let's take The Shawshank Redemption for example. In my opinion this is the best movie of all times. And I doubt that many people will argue with me about this. However did you ever count the Academy Awards it has won? Well I did. None. Forest Gump won most of them (which is the second greatest movie of all times).

I know one or two people that call themselves movie 'enthusiasts' but they don't know many of the best movies like The Shawshank Redemption, The Godfather, and many more. This people really believe that today's movies are better than these classics. Well they have the better effects that's something you can't argue about, but are they really better movies? Well there are some movies today that are quite good but I wouldn't go as far as putting them on one level with the best movies of all times.

It's the same as it is with all other things today. The profit is the most important part when making a movie. And today profit is achieved by good looking special effects. I didn't see a movie that was brilliant on its own without the need of special effects. Movies like Forest Gump or The Shawshank Redemption told a fascinating story and had great actors who played their roles brilliant.

I'm wondering if anybody in twenty years will speak about today as the 'good old days'.
